Inner City DC Mission Week

Some CityGate kids getting ready for the day's events.
Each summer at XLM we do a week long mission trip called Servolution Superweek in Northeast DC.  We work with an organization called CityGate which serves children and families.  This year's trip was August 7-11 and was a deeply enriching experience.

My friend O'Neil.
The neighborhood we serve is 93% below the poverty line.  This means that 9 out of 10 families are hardly making ends meet.  To make matters even more challenging, most of the kids we work with are 2 or 3 grade levels behind in reading.

Baptism Sunday Was Amazing

Last Sunday I had the great opportunity to baptize 23 students and children at Centreville Baptist Church  It was an exciting experience seeing so many young people being obedient to Jesus' command to publicly and unashamedly declare their faith in Him.

We recorded a brief audio testimony from each student that played as they stepped into the water.  There was not a dry eye in the place in all three services as we heard from each student how Christ had changed their lives.

This is why I'm in student ministry:  to see lives changed by Jesus Christ.  I cannot even begin to express how fulfilling it was for me to be part of these student's baptisms and faith journeys.  Please join with me in praying for each of these students and their families as they seek to walk with God daily.

Baptizing 23 People Tomorrow

This year was our 4th year to go to New Camp and God did some amazing things! We saw 19 of our students give their lives to Christ at camp and 14 rededicate their lives to Him.

Tomorrow we are celebrating what God did at camp. 18 students and 5 children are being baptized tomorrow at Centreville Baptist Church during all three of the Sunday morning services!

We are highlighting the student and children's ministries as part of our family focus for August.

Personally this is very exciting for me as it is my first time to baptize anyone, and I get to do 23 all in one day! Come out to support our students and children being baptized tomorrow!
